Film Distribution

Once a film is completed and created succesfully the next part of the film industry timeline is 'Distribution'. 'Distribution' means the process the film owners go through to sell their film to different tv/film/cinema companies. This process is mostly backed up by excesive marketing and advertising; this makes the film known and therefore makes people want to buy it and present it under their company therefore enhacing the films audience and popularity increasing the money the movie makers and distributors make.



Marketing



  • Cinema Trailers
  • Youtube realeased trailers
  • Official film websites
  • Printed advertising - magezine spreads/posters/Billboards/Buses/Bus Stops
  • The most expensive of them all being Tv Commercials
All of these exmaples of advertising are named 'Above the line' advertising also meaning marketing that has to be paid for.



Bellow the line advertising are things that help the marketing of the film but in a free non spending way - money is not necessary.
improvements in technology have made 'Below the line' advertising more common because it helps widen the concept of 'word of mouth' advertising.



The introduction of social networks have expanded the range of information film consumers can recieve; pages like this for example...






Help market films for free as the film distributors arent paying for people to log into these sites and comment on their films for others to find, the audience are doing this out of their own accord therefore enhancing free audience awareness.
If someone watches a trailer on 'youtube' they can then share it onto their facebook or twitter pages through the use of the hyperlink for their friends to enjoy and like themselves, this obviously attracts audience members freely.



Film premieres attract a lot of publicity that film distributors dont necessarily pay for, this publicity makes it into the media and tv therefore luring more audience members towards a certain film. Film premieres usually include big stars, many people go to the premieres to see the stars not quite caring about the overall film itself but this still attracts new target audience's and film enthusiasts that help promote the film themselves through blogging and 'word of mouth'





Lastly film reviews are also free advertising for film companies/makers even though some reviews are negative this still makes people want to see a 'trainwreck' of a film or if the review is outstanding it makes people want to go see why; advertising like this is free therefore its called 'Below the line' advertising.
Overall there are many types of advertising to increase the distribution of films without this no film will be successful therefore it is the most important part of the Film timeline.
