Different Ways In Which People Find Out About A Film And Why They Choose To Watch It

There are many different ways in which people find out about new upcoming films within their day to day lives, they are surrounded by advertising. Tv, Magazines, Bus Posters ect... all act as an intelligent form of promotion.
But there are many other ways of advertising that are more successful like...
  • Trailer
  • Cinema Posters
  • Radio advertising
  • Tv advertising
  • Reviews
  • Magazine Avertising
  • Website
  • Social Networks; Facebook; Twitter; Youtube
  • Premiere coverage
  • Online footage; interviews; Ads
  • Billboards; Bus shelter poster etc...
  • 'Word of Mouth'
These types of advertising are usually the reason why the public decide to go watch these films but other aspects of a film that can attract viewers are the actors of the film; the storyline; Genre; they like the director; they read outstanding reviews and wanted to witness it for themsleves or just because going to the cinema is an entertaining social event.

Exit Polls

The Uk Film Council are required to take 'Exit Polls' surveys for films supported by the Prints and Avertising fund. This is more commonly done for big Hollywood films that will most likely have many viewers rather than short independent films that will lack audience viewers. The 'Exit Polls' are carried out by professional research companies; two questionnaires are created for at least two cinema's during a films opening weekend. These questionnaires are used to help investigate the type of people that went to see the movie; why they went to see it and how they found our about the film. This information is extremely useful because refines their marketing and advertising campaigns to improve for future releases.
