Magazine Cover and Film Poster Research

Our main task this year in media is to create a Magazine Cover; Film Poster and Film trailer that all relate to each other, therefore in order to do this i had to research past magazine covers and film posters released in the past about famous films. I have previously researched previous film trailers for 'Titanic' and 'Forest Gump' therefore this part of my research is done but i havent completed any research on past magazine covers and film posters. However I am going to link all three aspects of two films and analyse all there for further understanding.

The magazine company I focused my research on was 'Empire' magazine, a magazine that is published and distributed monthly by 'Bauer Consumer Media'. Empire also creates their own events during the years; an award show is organised annually by Empire and sponsored by Jameson and voted and supported by the readers. Like most other magazines 'Empire' recieves most of its money from advertising; Every month the newest big blockbuster film will be plasted on the cover of their magazine giving the magazine exposure and a lot of money, followed by exclusive reviews; interviews with the actors and director of the big production. This Magazine has been the best selling magazine since its first edition in 1989 and has been growing stronger through the years.

'Empire' magazine got the first scoop on the phenomenon that 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' created their mast head of 'Our Best Preview Issue Ever' guranteed this issue to become a best seller. The world of Harry Potter has been so vast during the years that getting a one of a kind scoop on the most waited film of the year sent fans into a magazine buying frenzy. The Magazine cover sparks Harry Potter fans through their use of image and language; 'The End Begins' becoming one of the most famous lines associated with the last films of the franchise worked as a plug to attract audience members to the stands to buy this very important issue of 'Empire'. Everything incoorporated within this issue is intertextualised with the overwhelming Potter world that lead to vast sellings across the nation.

I have chosen 'Empire' magazine as inspiration for my magazine cover because it is extremely successful and their issues never fail to surprise me. The power of this magazine is emense and its many issues have given me a lot of idea's for my own product as they are all individual and exclusive therefore giving me pointers of things to include to make my product eye catching and alluring to the public.

The 'Empire' magazine cover stayed true to the worldwide distributed film posters that could be found everywhere one looked. Both products contrast each other and signify the same thing together therefore making the advertising for this film successfull. All 'Harry Potter' advertising throughout the years have all been intertextualised between one another so signify the same thing and these two different products are just a prime example of the power of advertising by any given companies when done succesfully.

I have chosen 'Harry Potter' advertising to use as a guide for my trailer poster and magazine cover because it has been very successful throughout the 8 films the franchise has produced and it is recognisable everywhere whilst the different types of advertising work together in a successful way to signify the same thing for the public as well as the last films being dark and sinister, a theme that applies with my trailer.
